How to successfully speak remotely, for a live live video event?
Tip 1: Arrive early! Log in to the meeting link created by your team (not the live link) 15 minutes before the start of the live.
Preparation is the crux of the war! Connect in advance, this will allow you to check that all your equipment is working (microphone, screen, camera) and to make all the necessary settings. These 15 minutes won't be too long! This will also allow you to contact the stage and to have the manager brief.
Tip 2: Connect with your camera on and mic mute.
When you connect to the meeting, we recommend that you turn on your camera directly while muting your microphone. This will allow the control room to make its first adjustments for the display of your camera in the event. The control room will ask you to turn on your microphone when it is time to perform the sound tests.
Tip #3: Once online, never unplug your camera.
On the other side of the meeting, you have the technical team responsible for producing the event. These teams constantly check the presence of stakeholders and the proper functioning of their equipment. By deactivating your camera, you will alert them and they will ask you!
Tip 4: Use headphones and a microphone if possible (avoid using your computer's internal microphone).
Using a headset or earphones is a good practice: the sound you'll get, both on the headphones and on the mic, will be better! This device will also allow you to avoid any echo or feedback, if your computer temporarily cannot manage a discrepancy between your computer's internal speakers and its microphone.
Tip 5: Your mic mutes when you're not talking. Remember to turn it back on when you speak.
It's a good practice, when you're not speaking, to mute your microphone. Whether done by you or by the control unit, the reactivation of your microphone will however have to be done by you. So don't forget! If you are speaking again, activate your microphone in the video software!
Tip #6: If you need to talk about technical issues or ask anything, use the chat.
Your video and audio stream is used to deliver LIVE. So, if you want to communicate without intervening in the event, use the chat! Our teams will come to provide you with assistance directly in the latter.
Tip 7: Pin the program (participant view) in your video software
Depending on the video software, use, pin or highlight the program that we send you as a thumbnail. This will allow you to see the big picture of what LIVE event attendees are seeing. This will allow you to see when you are on the air!
Tip #8: If you want to see your slides to support your speech, open them on your computer or print your slides to have them near you
You will not have control of your slides on the program (which is broadcast during the event). This is done directly by the management, in order to be able to display you dynamically next to your slides or in your slides. If you want to see them, we recommend that you open them on your computer or print them out. Don't forget to report “next slide”, if the driver does not have an indication of the passage of slides!
Tip 9: Be sure to be in a calm and bright environment (do not have a light source behind you to avoid backlighting).
A quiet environment will allow you to have better sound quality: both for you and for those who listen to you. In video, light is important: it is it that will ensure that your camera can function properly. Avoid backlit lights (having a window or a skylight in the background for example).
Tip 10: Make sure you have your whole head and part of your shoulders in the image
Your framing in the image is important: ideally, leave some space high above your head, just enough to put an imaginary apple on your head. Center yourself horizontally in the image.
Tip #11: Don't leave immediately after your speech, make sure you no longer appear on the air on your screen.
Is your speech finished? Attention, the event may still be ongoing! Verify on your screen, using the program's video feed, that you are no longer visible on the screen before signing out.
